Murazzo! The name was on everyone’s lips. The true identity of the celebrated thief was not so much shrouded in mystery as robed, caparisoned, ornamented with it. He was one man. He was a syndicate. He was not a man at all, but simply a name that the boldest thieves in the city adopted for their most daring crimes. ‘He’ was a woman. He was base-born, revenging himself on the aristocracy of Vintza for indignities inflicted on him. He was an aristocrat, mingling by day with those he robbed, returning at night to carry off their gold and silver. He had been hired by a Jhienesi bank to spread fear through the city. He was the Grand-Duke himself, relieving the crippling boredom that comes with absolute power by creeping in disguise from his sprawling palace on the Pyaza Dukal to rob his own subjects. The theories were endless.
